What is macular degeneration?
Macular degeneration occurs when a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. It is a degenerative disease that can cause vision loss, and commonly appears in people in their 50s or 60s. The main cause is old age, however it can occur in younger patients who have high myopia or smoke.
