CLEAR LASIK: THE MODERN WAY TO ACHIEVE A CLEARER AND MORE VIBRANT VISION

The eyes are windows to one’s soul. And just like windows, it is often taken for granted. If it is not given the utmost care, it eventually loses its clarity. Although sometimes, one’s vision loses its clearness due to factors such as genetics.  This has resulted in researchers developing ways to correct blurred vision, no matter how temporary the effect. Glasses and contact lenses are a few non-surgical options to improve one’s eyesight. These, however, offer only short-term results to a clearer vision.

These days, many patients seek permanent results; hence they opt to undergo surgery to correct their vision. Different surgical options are offered depending on various factors, such as the type of visual impairment, the patient’s budget, and the doctor’s decision on what is best for the patient after a comprehensive evaluation. For example, myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness) is most commonly treated with LASIK, which stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis. LASIK is both the most common and most popular vision correction surgery. It is done by reshaping one’s cornea so that the light focuses on one’s retina the way it should. As a result, it improves the once blurry vision the patient had.

Here in South Korea, dozens of eye clinics offer LASIK. Still, only a few offer the most advanced and modern technology with vast knowledge, experience, and meticulous care that will exceed your expectations, like EyeOnce Clinic Gangnam.

What is Vision Correction Surgery?

Vision Correction Surgery, also called laser vision correction, is used to fix common vision impairments such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia. It involves correcting what doctors call a refractive error, where the eye’s retina bends light in a way that causes visual acuity or blurry vision.

Vision Correction Surgery involves various safe and affordable methods to improve one’s eyesight permanently. This also helps the patient depend less on glasses or contact lenses prone to wear and tear.

Vision correction surgery involves a laser-assisted procedure to change how the eye bends light resulting in more precise and vibrant eyesight. Sometimes it involves minimal incision for the laser to reach its target treatment area.  However, laser correction surgery continues to advance and innovate, allowing more procedures to be done without blades or direct incisions of the cornea. This is why vision correction surgery has been modified multiple times to increase its safety and effectiveness rate. Each generation of eye correction procedures becomes lesser invasive than the previous one, where the latest method, called the CLEAR LASIK, involves almost no corneal incision to correct one’s vision. EyeOnce Clinic Gangnam offers this advanced method of correcting visual acuity and blurry vision to our patients after a thorough examination by our highly qualified ophthalmologists and surgeons.

What is Vision Correction Surgery?

CLEAR is an acronym for Corneal Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive-Correction. Using a low-energy femtosecond laser-powered machine, it is performed without creating a corneal flap. CLEAR LASIK works very similarly to Small Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) procedure created with Ziemer Femto LDV Z8 femtosecond laser. It uses this laser to reshape one’s cornea, thus correcting one’s vision. For this to happen, the surgeon must correct the stromal layer or the middle of one’s cornea.

In other vision correction surgical methods such as PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) and LASIK, the top corneal layer is peeled back for the laser to access and reshape the stroma layer. With CLEAR LASIK, removing the top layers of the cornea is unnecessary as the laser creates a disc-shaped piece of corneal tissue known as the lenticule by generating two thin bubble layers within the cornea’s stromal layer.

With CLEAR, myopia and astigmatism can be corrected with high precision by adjusting the rotation of light in the eye during surgery without the need to cut or incise. Unlike the previous generations of corrective surgery that needs a complete removal or minimal incision to reshape the cornea.

EyeOnce Clinic Gangnam made sure to advance to the next level of vision corrective surgery to shift away from using blades with the emergence of femtosecond laser during the 2000s. The Ziemer Femto LDV Z8 started this revolutionary change, and the 4th Generation CLEAR surgery was developed.

FEATURES OF CLEAR LASIK SURGERY

CLEAR LASIK surgery can guarantee a safer procedure and high-quality results. This is because of its exceedingly superior qualities to other vision correction surgeries. Here are some of its best features that can surely entice and assure you of its effectiveness.

  1. Faster laser speed using low energy, allowing quick recovery time.
  2. Upgraded docking system where it allows better lenticule separation and extraction to correct vision than traditional eye fixation methods.
  3. Real-time tomography of the eye during surgery (OCT Scan System).

PROCEDURE OF CLEAR LASIK SURGERY

During a CLEAR LASIK surgery, the surgeon gently removes the lenticule through a small incision, permanently changing the shape of one’s cornea and resulting in clear and better vision

Patient is examined and prepped before CLEAR LASIK at EyeOnce Clinic Gangnam

FAQs

What do I need to do before and after undergoing CLEAR LASIK?

Before undergoing CLEAR LASIK, it is advised to discontinue the use of contact lenses as it may affect the shape of the cornea. We also recommend you know the precautions following CLEAR surgery to maintain its effectiveness and lessen possible side effects. After your surgery, our medical team will advise you of the Dos and Don’ts. For example, when going out, UV sunglasses are recommended to be worn for three (3) months following surgery. Light exercise is allowed a day after the surgery, and strenuous activities such as skiing and swimming are allowed the following week. Check out our site to learn more about the recommended precautions following the CLEAR LASIK procedure.

Are there any significant side effects after the CLEAR LASIK procedure?

CLEAR surgery produces minimal side effects than other vision corrective procedures. It has a lesser inflammatory response with minimal tissue damage contributing to its quick visual recovery. There is also minimal risk of dry eye syndrome post-surgery and no possible corneal flap dislocation.

How long will it take to recover after undergoing CLEAR LASIK?

CLEAR LASIK promises fast recovery time because it involves minimal to no incisions. Vision will improve enough for you to return to your daily activities the following day. However, long-distance vision will recover first, and your near-range eye vision will follow.
